Below are a few security tips to try to help keep your property secure and will be added to over time:
- If your door has more than one lock it makes sense to use it, it only takes a few seconds to do and could prevent unwanted visitors.
- Keep your keys out of site and reach of your letterbox to prevent "fishing".
- Check with your home insurance policy to make sure your security is adequate, they may not pay out if locks do not conform to their specific standards.
- External wooden doors should be fitted with a 5 lever British Standard mortice lock.
- Leave your TV, radio or lights on a timer switch when you're on holiday to give the appearance that somebody is home
- Don't leave windows open when you are out.
- Be aware of leaving tools around your garden or in unlocked sheds e.g. ladders as these could be used to gain entry to your property.
- Make sure the gate to your back garden is locked and secure as back gardens are often not overlooked and more secluded giving theives more time to break in.
